The Kestrel ADU Plan
The Kestrel ADU Plan
The Kestrel ADU
A modern single-story ADU plan with a dramatic shed roof, vaulted open-concept living, contemporary kitchen, dedicated workspace, and expansive windows—all wrapped in a compact, efficient footprint designed for backyard and infill lots.
Product Description
The Kestrel ADU Plan is a contemporary small-home design built around a simple, expressive shed roof and an efficient single-story layout. Designed for backyard ADUs, urban infill sites, guest houses, and compact primary residences, The Kestrel combines modern architecture with a straightforward building form that makes excellent use of limited space.
The main living area features an open-concept kitchen and living room beneath a sloped ceiling, creating a surprisingly spacious interior and allowing natural light to reach deep into the home. Tall vertical windows emphasize the ceiling height and bring additional daylight into the living space, while a built-in work area provides a convenient place for a home office or study.
The kitchen is organized around a generous island with seating and connects directly to the living area, making the compact footprint feel open and functional. Large openings and carefully placed windows reinforce the connection between the interior and outdoor living areas.
Outside, dark vertical siding, deep roof overhangs, warm wood soffits, and a single-slope roof give The Kestrel a distinctly modern architectural character. The restrained material palette works especially well in contemporary neighborhoods while remaining simple enough to adapt to a variety of finishes and sites.
The Kestrel is an excellent option for a modern ADU, backyard cottage, rental unit, guest house, downsizing residence, or compact infill home where architectural character and efficient use of space are equally important.
